1. Information We Collect

Distill does not require account creation and does not collect any personal information beyond the YouTube URL you submit.

When you submit a YouTube URL, the following processing occurs:

• The video's publicly available caption (subtitle) text is retrieved from YouTube's servers.
• That caption text is transmitted to Google LLC, the operator of the Gemini AI API, located in the United States, for the sole purpose of generating a summary.
• Google processes the caption text under its own Privacy Policy. When using the API, Google does not use submitted data to train its models by default.

The raw caption data is discarded after the summary is generated and is never permanently stored by Distill.

2. Automatically Collected Data (Logs & Analytics)

We use Google Analytics to improve service quality. This may collect anonymized usage statistics such as pages visited, session duration, browser type, operating system, and approximate location (country/city level). This information cannot be used to identify you personally.

3. Advertising, Analytics & Cookies

When you first visit this site, a cookie consent banner is displayed. Analytics and advertising cookies are only set after you click “Accept”. If you click “Decline”, no tracking cookies are stored and no analytics or ad scripts are loaded.

If you consent, this site uses Google Analytics (usage statistics) and Google AdSense (advertising). Google may use cookies (including the DART cookie) to show ads based on your interests.

5. Data Retention

Distill does not permanently store any personal data. Raw caption data is discarded immediately after summary generation.

• AI-generated summaries are cached in an Upstash Redis database for up to 24 hours to improve performance. This data contains no personal information.
• Anonymous comments posted on summary pages are stored for up to 30 days.
• IP-based rate-limit counters are stored for up to 1 minute and contain no identifying information beyond the hashed IP.

6. Children's Privacy

This service does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.

7. Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated as the service changes. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect any revisions.
